After several hours of debate, the Minnesota House of Representatives passed a $1.87 billion package of public works projects, tax reduction provisions, and spending initiatives around 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The bill had 100 “yes” and 34 “no” votes, which surpassed the requirement for bonding bills to receive three-fifths support, 81 votes, to pass the House. Along with all House Democrats, 25 House Republicans voted yes on the bill. The Senate is expected to take up the bill on Thursday.

The House also passed Senate File 27, authored in the House by Representative Todd Lippert (DFL-Northfield), which modifies the farm loan origination fee grant program. The bill passed 132-0. It previously passed 67-0 in the Senate. The bill now goes to the governor for his signature.

Following passage of the two bills, the Minnesota House adjourned the special session. Should the governor extend his peacetime emergency powers for another 30 days, the next special session would take place in mid-November after the election. The governor’s peacetime emergency powers are in effect through November 12, 2020.
