Director Kris Ehresmann, Infectious Disease Epidemiology, Prevention, and Control Division
- Director Ehresmann reported 738 new cases of COVID-19. This brings the state’s total number of cases to 63,723.
- The median age for a COVID-19 case is 36-years-old.
- There were eight new deaths due to COVID-19. This brings the number of COVID-19 deaths in Minnesota to 1,693.
- Currently, 313 patients are hospitalized with 152 of those in the ICU.
- Director Ehresmann said that students preparing to leave for college should quarantine or stay close to home for the 14 days leading up to their departure for college in order to minimize the mount of transmission that may occur on campus.
Dr. Ruth Lynfield, State Epidemiologist
- Dr. Lynfield announced that the FDA sent out a warning to consumers and healthcare professionals about hand sanitizers that contain methanol or 1-proponal.
- Consumers who have products on the list of hand sanitizers with contamination due to these products should stop using them and dispose of them in a hazardous waste container.
Walz Signs Two Bills
Governor Tim Walz today signed two bills into law, including a $30 million package for disability service providers.
“The people most impacted by COVID-19 have been our most vulnerable populations – directing this funding to disability service providers will help ensure we don’t leave anyone behind,” said Governor Walz. “This bill will provide direct support to ensure Minnesotans with disabilities and older Minnesotans continue to receive critical services amid COVID-19.”
The bill signing today included:
- Ch. 1, Senate File 1: Support for Disability Providers
- This bill provides funding from the federal Coronavirus Relief Fund to assist certain disability providers with the costs of business interruptions caused by COVID-19. It also helps ensure access to these services during and after COVID-19; makes it easier for people to apply for economic assistance programs during COVID-19; and expands the universe of providers who can access a DHS grant program that supports people with disabilities and older adults.
- Ch. 2, House File 2: POST Board Technical Fix
This bill provides a technical fix to ensure efficient implementation of the police reform and accountability act passed in July.
