Our outreach efforts include a comprehensive campaign that utilizes robust data and compelling financial arguments to engage potential industrial and retail clients. To date, this initiative has generated hundreds of jobs and resulted in the installation of thousands of miles of insulation, reflecting our unwavering commitment to the growth and success of our members.

Local 34: A legacy of skilled craftsmanship and advocacy for Mechanical Insulation workers.
Founded in 1913, Local 34 of the International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers has been a pillar for mechanical insulation professionals across Minnesota, Western Wisconsin, and South Dakota. What began as a modest group of 17 charter members has since grown into a thriving community of over 500 skilled members, united by a commitment to fair wages, benefits, safe working conditions, and professional growth.
A Union born from the steam power revolution
The roots of the Heat and Frost Insulators Union lie in the steam power revolution, which transformed energy in both commercial and residential settings. With new boiler systems came the need for mechanical insulation to maximize energy efficiency. Skilled insulation mechanics were essential to the new industry, yet they lacked the union support necessary for fair treatment and safe working conditions. The Heat and Frost Union emerged to advocate for their rights, and Local 34 has continued this mission with a steadfast commitment to its members' well-being.
Meeting today's energy challenges with mechanical insulation
Just as the first union members responded to the demands of steam energy, today's members deliver mechanical insulation solutions that support a radically different energy landscape. Local 34 members play a crucial role in advancing green initiatives, including net-zero energy buildings and retrofit projects that extend the life and efficiency of aging infrastructure. Through skilled application of modern insulation methods, our union members contribute directly to energy conservation efforts that are essential in today's marketplace.
Strengthening the trade through apprenticeship and education
Local 34 does not just unite members- it trains the next generation of insulation experts. Our apprenticeship program pairs seasoned insulators with newcomers, passing down essential skills honed through years of hands-on experience. This mentorship ensures that our members are among the best-trained in the Minnesota/Twin Cities, Wester Wisconsin, and South Dakota areas, ready to meet the high demand for their specialized expertise.
Advocacy and outreach for the mechanical insulation industry
Beyond member support, the Heat and Frost Insulators Union has launched an extensive outreach campaign to educated on the overlooked energy-saving potential of mechanical insulation. through rigorous data analysis and public education efforts, the union has built awareness and job opportunities in this field, positioning mechanical insulation as a key solution in the movement toward energy efficiency.
Local 34 in more than a union- It is a legacy of craftsmanship, advocacy, and progress in energy conservation. With our members at the forefront, we are creating a future where mechanical insulation plays a vital role in sustainable energy solutions.
Insulators Union General President Gregory T. Revard issued the following statement in response to the violence that occurred yesterday in Washington D.C. culminating with the attack on the Capitol building:
The events that transpired yesterday in our nation’s capital are reprehensible, but also criminal. The use of violence and attempts to halt our democratic process and the peaceful transition of power that has successfully occurred for more than 200 years is a direct result of the actions and directives of President Trump and his various supporters in Congress.
Under no circumstance is violence ever the answer. The destruction that happened at the U.S. Capitol is deplorable and nothing short of a domestic terrorist act. Above all else, lives were lost yesterday, which is the greatest tragedy.
There were actually two attacks that took place yesterday. One was the siege of the Capitol Building conducted by extremist Trump supporters. The second was the attack waged by certain elected members of Congress who questioned our democracy and attempted to quash the vote to certify the Electoral College results, based on nothing more than falsehoods and baseless conspiracy theories. As a veteran who proudly served in the United States Navy, the ideals of our nation and democracy is what I fought to protect.
With a new administration taking over the leadership of our country in a few days, the hope that better days are ahead under more qualified leaders can be the only bright spot in what appears to be some of the darkest days in our nation’s history.
